There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling hall, contains 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
