There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow.
